Following completion of the Phase 1 Dome works, SPS were appointed to deliver the piling package for the remainder of the Phase 2 ground development at AFC Bournemouth’s training facility.
Phase 2 was split into 2 zones, to accommodate for the site’s layout, and will bring AFC Bournemouth first team, development squad, academy and pre-academy training operations into one location for the first time. Phase 2 includes the development of first-class facilities, including nine full-size pitches, three junior pitches, three goalkeeping pitches, an indoor artificial playing surface and an outdoor artificial playing surface, as well as state-of-the-art medical, fitness, sports science and rehabilitation facilities, administrative space and a press conference theatre.
Specialist Piling installed 471 No. 300mm diameter CFA bearing piles across Zones 1 and 2 of AFC Bournemouth Training Ground Phase 2, split by 283 piles in Zone 1, with the remaining 188 making up Zone 2. Piles were designed to support compression loads up to 742kN. Reinforcement was varied to suit structural demand, and all piles were constructed using C28/35 concrete to DC-2 classification with 100% integrity testing.
